First Grade Freak Out, and Look Who's Riding a Bike!
Gage had his first day of school yesterday. He's now a big first grader. He's not the one who had the freak out. I was his over emotional mother! Yes, I bawled my eyes out. We walked to school, he put his backpack away and sat down at his desk and started his worksheet. I realized real quick I was no longer needed. So I told him I loved him and to have a great day and headed out the door. (Having student taught first grade, I know there are mother's that refuse to leave and I vowed not to be THAT mother.) As soon as I got in the hallway, I felt the waterworks coming on. So I practically dragged Kyah home in an effort to avoid anyone else seeing me cry. There's just something about having Gage gone for lunch that doesn't sit right with me. He's with his teacher(who is adorable) more than he is with me now. *sigh* I just worry so much. Today he decided he was having hot lunch. It's pizza day. Just another thing to worry about. I asked his teacher to please make sure he knew how to go through the lunch line. (here come the tears again. ha) Gage on the other hand was not worried at all. He had a fun first day. He came home with a cookie that he decorated. He told me all about how he gets three recesses now and how him and three other boys played basketball the whole time. He didn't eat one bite of his sandwich, but ate most of everything else I packed. He said his teacher was nice too. HOWEVER, this morning he already told me he had a cough and that he better not go to school and get other kids sick. (Oh dear, not this again.) I assured him he was just fine. Then the truth came out and he told me he didn't like being at school ALL DAY! Then I reminded him it was Pizza Day and that seemed to solve the problem. Gage is so funny. He has been loving getting on line to check out the lunch menu. I hope he has a great day today. As for me, my heart still hurts with worry. I'm sure this will get better over time. I almost forgot Kyah. Poor girl was lonely yesterday. Although we did can salsa and made brownies for when Gage got home. At lunch she said, "but mom, Gage isn't having lunch with us!" And then at about 2 o'clock she wanted to know when we were picking Gage up. Needless to say, we both miss our Gager guy when he's at school. Here are some pics of his first day! Kyah insisted on wearing her backpack while walking Gage to school.
I told you his teacher is adorable!
NEXT: I was determined to get Gage riding his bike before school started. I have had lots of guilt because I hadn't taught him yet. So the other evening I took him out. My neighbor saw that his tires were low and pumped them up for us. Apparently that was all Gage needed to ride his bike! He just took off after that all by himself. He's doing so great! He loves it. He's practically an adult now going to school and riding a bike!!
